Gadwall Duckling
Mareca strepera (duckling)
Gadwall ducklings remain close to sheltered freshwater wetlands, ponds, and marsh edges. They swim soon after hatching, picking at tiny aquatic insects, crustaceans, and soft plant matter near the surface. Downy young can dive or paddle away from danger before their flight feathers develop.
