White-breasted Waterhen Juvenile
Amaurornis phoenicurus (juvenile)

A growing juvenile with duller plumage and less contrast than the adult, often moving through reed beds, wet gardens, ponds, and flooded fields. It forages more independently for insects, worms, snails, small aquatic animals, seeds, and shoots. Juveniles are already nimble runners and waders, slipping into thick vegetation when disturbed while their flight remains weak and short.
