Spur-thighed Tortoise Juvenile
Testudo graeca (juvenile)

A juvenile spur-thighed tortoise ranges through dry meadows, scrubland, field edges, and rocky patches with more confidence than a hatchling. It grazes mostly on broad-leaved weeds, grasses, flowers, and other fibrous plants. Juveniles spend hot or cold periods tucked into shallow scrapes, under stones, or beneath dense vegetation. Growth is slow, and the shell gradually becomes higher and stronger while the animal remains vulnerable to many predators.
