Buteo fluviaticus
Buteo fluviaticus
This medium-sized buzzard hunts along rivers, marshes, and adjacent open woodland. It watches from a perch or circles overhead before dropping on fish, rodents, reptiles, and other small prey. Its hooked bill and powerful talons tear apart captured animals. Broad wings allow it to soar efficiently on rising air while searching for food.
