Culex winchesteri Pupa
Culex winchesteri (pupa)
The pupa remains in freshwater near the surface, breathing through paired respiratory trumpets on its thorax. It does not feed during this stage, instead developing the structures needed for adult life. A sudden disturbance makes it tumble and dart downward with rapid abdominal movements.
