Moss Carder Bee
Bombus muscorum

The adult is a ginger-brown bumblebee of flower-rich grasslands, dunes, marshes, and coastal meadows. It feeds on nectar and gathers pollen, visiting plants such as clovers, vetches, thistles, and knapweeds. Adults fly low between flowers and may defend themselves with a venomous sting when handled or threatened. This species often nests above ground in mossy or grassy tussocks, which gives the carder bees their name.
