Moss Carder Bee Pupa
Bombus muscorum (pupa)
The pupa rests inside a protective cocoon within the nest while its adult body forms. It does not feed or fly, spending this stage largely motionless and concealed in the brood cluster. Its main defence is the toughened casing and the shelter of surrounding nest material. During this stage, legs, wings, antennae, and the adult coat develop before emergence.
