Brown Bear Subadult
Ursus arctos (subadult)
Brown bear subadults have usually separated from their mother and roam widely while learning seasonal feeding routes. They eat a broad omnivorous diet including berries, roots, grasses, insects, fish, carrion, and occasionally young ungulates. Subadults are curious and mobile but often avoid dominant adults, especially near rich food sources like salmon streams or carcasses. A notable fact is that this stage is risky because young bears must find territory and food while still being smaller than mature rivals.
