California Scrub-Jay Fledgling
Aphelocoma californica (fledgling)

This young jay has left the nest but still keeps close to cover in chaparral, oak woodland, parks, and suburban gardens. It makes short, uneven flights and often hops between branches while adults continue feeding it insects, berries, and small scraps of food. Its calls are frequent as it begs and keeps contact with its parents. At this stage it begins practicing the foraging and caching habits that will become important in adulthood.
