Northern Lapwing
Vanellus vanellus

The adult Northern Lapwing is a crested plover of wet meadows, grazed pasture, marshy fields, and winter farmland. It feeds mainly on earthworms, beetles, flies, larvae, and other invertebrates taken from soil and short vegetation. During the breeding season it performs tumbling display flights and aggressively mobbs intruders with loud calls and diving passes. Its famous wavering flight and long crest make it one of the most distinctive open-country waders in Europe and western Asia.
