Plain Tiger Caterpillar
Danaus chrysippus (caterpillar)
The caterpillar lives on milkweed and related host plants in warm grasslands, gardens, scrub, and farmland edges. It feeds steadily on leaves, storing toxic plant chemicals in its body as it grows. Its bold bands warn predators that it is unpleasant to eat. When disturbed, it may curl or rely on its bitter chemistry rather than trying to flee.
