Plain Tiger Chrysalis
Danaus chrysippus (chrysalis)

The chrysalis hangs from a leaf, stem, wall, or other sheltered surface while the body reorganizes into the adult form. It does not feed and moves only by small jerks when disturbed. Its smooth green case, often marked with metallic-looking spots, helps it blend with vegetation. Toxic compounds carried over from the caterpillar stage can still make it a poor meal for predators.
