Barn Swallow Hatchling
Hirundo rustica (hatchling)

A newly hatched chick rests in a mud cup nest built on beams, ledges, or under eaves in open human-made structures. It is mostly helpless, with closed or barely open eyes and sparse down, relying on adults to bring small flying insects. Its main behavior is gaping and calling when it feels movement at the nest rim. A notable fact is that hatchlings grow very quickly, developing feathers fast enough to leave the nest in only a few weeks.
