Crimson Rosella Hatchling
Platycercus elegans (hatchling)
A Crimson Rosella hatchling is a blind, downy chick raised inside a tree hollow in eucalypt forest and woodland. It stays in the nest while its parents bring softened seeds, fruit, buds, and occasional insects. Its main behaviours are begging calls, crouching low, and stretching as flight feathers begin to grow. Like many parrots, it depends completely on the nest cavity for warmth and protection during its first weeks.
