Snowy Owl Fledgling
Bubo scandiacus (fledgling)

A Snowy Owl fledgling is a young bird with developing flight feathers, practicing short flights and strengthening its wings across open tundra. It still depends partly on adults for food but begins to pounce, grab, and handle prey as its talons and coordination improve. Its plumage is darker and more barred than that of many adults, helping it blend into rocky or vegetated ground. A notable fact is that fledglings can be quite mobile before full independence, moving widely around the nesting territory while they learn to hunt.
