Common Pipistrelle
Pipistrellus pipistrellus

The common pipistrelle is a very small bat found across much of Europe, roosting in buildings, tree holes, and other narrow sheltered spaces. It hunts at dusk and night along hedgerows, woodland edges, gardens, and wetlands, catching midges, mosquitoes, and other tiny flying insects. Its flight is fast and fluttering, with frequent turns guided by echolocation calls. Despite weighing only a few grams, one individual can consume hundreds or even thousands of small insects in a night.
