Lion Cub
Panthera leo (cub)

Lion cubs are born in sheltered dens or thick cover on African savannas, scrub, and open woodland. They spend much of their early life hiding, nursing, and learning through play that mimics stalking, pouncing, and wrestling. As they grow, they begin eating meat brought by adults while their spotted coats help break up their outline in grass and shade. A notable juvenile trait is their rapid development of coordination, turning clumsy play into real hunting practice.
