Cooper's Hawk Nestling
Astur cooperii (nestling)
A Cooper's Hawk Nestling stays in the nest but is larger, alert, and partly feathered, often exercising its wings before it can fly. It lives above forest edges, parks, and neighborhoods where the adults bring fresh prey to the nest. Its diet is still delivered by the parents and consists mainly of birds, with some small mammals. A notable fact is that the toes and talons become powerful before flight is mastered, reflecting the hunting tools it will need later.
