Cooper's Hawk
Astur cooperii
An adult Cooper's Hawk is a fast forest raptor of woodlands, parks, and suburbs, built for weaving through trees in pursuit of prey. It hunts mostly medium-sized birds, with small mammals taken when available, often launching from concealment or cover. Its long tail and short rounded wings give it exceptional maneuverability in tight spaces. A notable fact is that it commonly surprises birds at feeders, showing how well this woodland hunter adapts to human-altered habitats.
