American Bullfrog Tadpole
Lithobates catesbeianus (tadpole)

This aquatic larval stage lives in ponds, marshes, slow streams, and other permanent water with plenty of vegetation. It feeds mostly by grazing algae, detritus, and soft plant material, though larger tadpoles may also take tiny organic particles and carrion. It avoids predators by hovering near cover, darting away with its tail, or hiding among weeds. A notable trait is its long development time: in cooler regions, tadpoles may overwinter and take more than one year to transform.
