Blue Jay Fledgling
Cyanocitta cristata (fledgling)

A Blue Jay Fledgling has left the nest but still depends on its parents while it practices short flights through shrubs, yards, and woodland edges. It eats insects, berries, and softened seeds delivered by adults, then gradually learns to pick up food on its own. Its flight is clumsy at first, so it relies on hopping, fluttering, hiding in foliage, and loud begging calls. This stage is especially vulnerable because young birds often spend time on low branches or the ground before becoming strong fliers.
