Brown Rat Pup
Rattus norvegicus (pup)

Brown rat pups are born blind, hairless, and helpless in a warm nest tucked inside a burrow, wall void, sewer bank, or other protected cavity. They feed entirely on their mother's milk at first and rely on littermates for warmth. Their ears and eyes open as they grow, and their sharp incisors soon begin developing for gnawing. A notable fact is that pups can produce tiny ultrasonic distress calls that help the mother locate and retrieve them.
