Mandarin Duck Juvenile
Aix galericulata (juvenile)

Juveniles resemble duller females and spend much of their time practicing feeding, swimming, and short flights in wooded wetlands. Their diet broadens to include aquatic insects, small snails, seeds, acorns, and tender vegetation. They are more independent than ducklings but still rely on cover along banks and overhanging branches to avoid predators. Growing flight feathers make them quicker to escape across both water and air.
