Mandarin Duck
Aix galericulata

Adult Mandarin Ducks favor wooded ponds, slow rivers, and lakes with dense bankside cover, often perching in trees near water. They feed by dabbling, grazing, and picking up seeds, acorns, aquatic plants, insects, and small invertebrates. Adults are agile swimmers and strong fliers, with males using bright plumage and ritualized displays during courtship. A notable trait is their nesting habit in tree cavities, from which the ducklings must drop safely to the ground after hatching.
