Nile Monitor Hatchling
Varanus niloticus (hatchling)

Newly hatched Nile monitors stay close to cover near riverbanks, floodplains, and dense vegetation. They feed mostly on insects, small crustaceans, and other tiny animals they can overpower with quick bites. Hatchlings rely on camouflage, speed, and hiding rather than strength. Their banded markings help break up their outline among leaves, mud, and reeds.
