Nile Monitor
Varanus niloticus

Adult Nile monitors are large semi-aquatic lizards found around rivers, lakes, wetlands, and coastal waterways across much of sub-Saharan Africa. They eat a wide range of prey, including fish, frogs, crabs, birds, eggs, small mammals, reptiles, and carrion. Adults defend themselves with powerful jaws, sharp claws, vigorous tail blows, and a loud hissing display. They are excellent swimmers and can stay submerged for extended periods while escaping or searching for food.
