Chimney Swift Fledgling
Chaetura pelagica (fledgling)

A fledgling chimney swift is mostly feathered and remains around the chimney or hollow where it hatched while its flight muscles finish developing. It flutters, climbs, and practices short bursts of movement before making sustained flights. Adults still feed it aerial insects until it can catch prey on the wing. Its stiff tail spines help it brace upright on rough walls, a useful trait for a bird that cannot perch like a songbird.
