European Goldfinch Fledgling
Carduelis carduelis (fledgling)

A fledgling European Goldfinch has left the nest but still stays close to cover in gardens, orchards, scrub, and woodland edges. It can flutter and make short flights, though its landings are clumsy and it often hides among branches while calling to its parents. Its diet is still partly provided by adults, gradually shifting toward small seeds from thistles, teasels, and other plants. Unlike the adult, it lacks the bold red face and has a duller, streaked head that helps it remain less conspicuous.
