Drone Fly Pupa
Eristalis tenax (pupa)
The pupa usually rests in damp soil, mud, or debris close to the larval water source. It does not feed, instead using stored energy while the adult body forms inside the hardened puparium. Small respiratory structures help it breathe during this quiet stage. Its main defense is staying still and protected within its tough outer case.
