Drone Fly
Eristalis tenax
The adult is a common hoverfly found around flowers, gardens, wet fields, and farmyards. It feeds on nectar and pollen, often hovering in place before darting to another bloom. Its brown-and-gold body resembles a honeybee, a harmless mimicry that can deter predators. As a pollinator, it visits many flowering plants while the larvae develop in nutrient-rich wet habitats.
