Great-tailed Grackle Fledgling
Quiscalus mexicanus (fledgling)

A fledgling Great-tailed Grackle has left the nest but still stays close to cover in shrubs, trees, marsh edges, lawns, and parking-lot plantings where adults can continue feeding it. It makes short, clumsy flights and quick hops while learning to balance, land, and follow adults. Its diet shifts from mostly delivered insects to more self-sampled scraps, seeds, fruit, and small invertebrates. A notable fact is that fledglings often look duller and shorter-tailed than adults, making them less conspicuous while their flight skills improve.
