Italian Wall Lizard Hatchling
Podarcis siculus (hatchling)

Newly hatched Italian wall lizards keep to warm stones, cracks, leaf litter, and low vegetation where they can hide quickly. They feed on tiny insects and other small invertebrates, using short bursts of speed to catch prey. At this stage they are extremely vulnerable to birds, larger lizards, and mammals, so freezing and darting into cover are their main defenses. Like many young lizards, they are independent from birth and receive no parental care.
