Eurasian Coot Juvenile
Fulica atra (juvenile)

A juvenile Eurasian Coot is a grey-brown waterbird of lakes, reservoirs, marshes, and slow rivers, often practicing dives and short rushes across the surface. It feeds more independently than a chick, grazing on aquatic plants and picking small invertebrates from the water and mud. The pale facial shield is still dull and developing, unlike the clean white shield of an adult. Young birds are mobile and wary, using reeds and open water as escape routes.
