Olive-sided Flycatcher Juvenile
Contopus cooperi (juvenile)

A juvenile Olive-sided Flycatcher is nearly adult-sized and begins hunting from exposed perches at forest edges and clearings. It practices the species’ typical sallying behavior, flying out to catch insects in the air before returning to a lookout branch. Its plumage is fresher and subtly different from the adult, and its flight control is still improving. By late summer, it must build strength for a long migration toward wintering grounds in Central and South America.
