Northern White-breasted Hedgehog
Erinaceus roumanicus

The adult Northern White-breasted Hedgehog lives across eastern and southeastern Europe in hedgerows, open woodland, orchards, parks, and farmland margins. It is mostly nocturnal, walking with its nose low to the ground while searching for beetles, worms, slugs, caterpillars, and other small prey. When threatened, it raises its spines and curls into a tight ball rather than trying to outrun predators. A notable fact is that it hibernates through cold months, relying on fat stored during the active season.
