Dor Beetle
Geotrupes stercorarius

The adult Dor Beetle is a sturdy dung beetle found in pastures, heathland, woodland rides, and other places where mammal dung is available. It digs vertical tunnels beneath dung piles and drags dung down as food for itself and its young. Adults are strong burrowers with hard black-blue wing cases, and they can fly with a deep buzzing sound when moving between food sources. A notable fact is that their tunnelling helps aerate soil and recycle nutrients back into the ground.
