Blacklegged Tick Nymph
Ixodes scapularis (nymph)

Blacklegged tick nymphs live in moist woods, leaf litter, and weedy habitat where they quest on low plants. They feed on small mammals, birds, and sometimes people, using tiny mouthparts that often go unnoticed. This stage is especially important in spreading Lyme disease because nymphs are small and active during warm months. After feeding, a nymph drops away and molts into the adult stage.
