Eastern Grey Squirrel
Sciurus carolinensis

Eastern grey squirrels live in hardwood forests, parks, suburbs, and city neighborhoods where trees provide food and shelter. They are agile daytime foragers, eating acorns, nuts, seeds, fungi, buds, fruit, and occasionally insects or eggs. Adults leap between branches, flick their tails, and give sharp alarm calls when threatened. One notable fact is their scatter-hoarding behavior: they bury many separate food caches and recover them later using memory and smell.
