Cottonmouth
Agkistrodon piscivorus

Adult cottonmouths are heavy-bodied pit vipers of wetlands, cypress swamps, slow streams, and lakeshores in the southeastern United States. They ambush fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and small mammals, using heat-sensing pits and venomous fangs to subdue prey. When threatened, an adult may coil, vibrate its tail, hiss, and expose the pale lining of its mouth before striking.
