Domestic Duck
Anas platyrhynchos domesticus

Domestic ducks live around ponds, farms, wetlands, and human-managed water sources, spending much of the day swimming, dabbling, and resting on shore. They eat aquatic plants, seeds, grasses, small invertebrates, and leftover grain when available. Adults defend themselves with pecks, wing slaps, body shoves, and loud alarm calls, though many domestic breeds fly poorly compared with wild mallards. A notable fact is that centuries of domestication have produced many body shapes and plumage colors while preserving the duck’s waterproof feathering and strong paddling feet.
