Great Horned Owl Hatchling
Bubo virginianus (hatchling)

A downy, nest-bound chick found in stick nests, tree cavities, cliff ledges, or sheltered sites in wooded and open habitats. It cannot hunt or fly yet, relying on adults to tear up small mammals, birds, and other prey into manageable pieces. When threatened, it may hiss, snap its beak, and crouch low in the nest. Its oversized feet and hooked beak develop early, hinting at the powerful predator it will become.
