Great Horned Owl Fledgling
Bubo virginianus (fledgling)

A fluffy juvenile that has left the nest but still stays near branches, ledges, or the ground close to its nesting area. It feeds mostly on prey delivered by adults while practicing short hops, climbing, and awkward early flights. Fledglings use their talons and beak to scramble back up trees when they fall. This stage is especially vulnerable, but it is already learning the silent pounce and gripping strike of a hunting owl.
