Common Bluebottle Fly
Calliphora vicina

A metallic blue blow fly often seen around flowers, carrion, refuse, and buildings. It flies quickly between food sources, using sponging mouthparts to take in liquids from nectar, dung, or decomposing material. Adults are important decomposers and also visit flowers, though they can carry microbes from one surface to another. This species is relatively cold-tolerant for a blow fly and may be active in cool seasons when many other flies are scarce.
