Common Fruit Fly Pupa
Drosophila melanogaster (pupa)

The pupa is usually found on a drier surface near the larval food, often on the side of fruit or the container holding it. It does not feed or travel, instead remaining sealed inside a brown puparium formed from the hardened larval skin. Inside that case, the body reorganizes into the adult fly with wings, legs, and compound eyes. Its tough outer covering is the main defence during this immobile stage.
