Great Cormorant
Phalacrocorax carbo

An adult great cormorant inhabits coasts, estuaries, reservoirs, rivers, and large lakes across a broad Old World range. It is a powerful pursuit diver, swimming with webbed feet to chase and seize fish underwater. Adults nest colonially on cliffs, trees, or ground sites, and they often perch with wings outstretched after diving. A notable fact is that its plumage allows some water penetration, reducing buoyancy and helping it dive more efficiently.
