Scarce Swallowtail
Iphiclides podalirius

A large, pale swallowtail butterfly of warm open country, orchards, scrub, woodland edges, and flowery hillsides across much of Europe and western Asia. Adults feed mainly on nectar and are strong, graceful fliers that often glide between blossoms and sunny perches. The long hindwing tails and bold markings can help draw attacks away from the body. Eggs are laid singly on food plants such as blackthorn, hawthorn, and related shrubs.
