Scarce Swallowtail Caterpillar
Iphiclides podalirius (larva)
This green caterpillar feeds on the leaves of blackthorn, hawthorn, cherry, and other rose-family shrubs in sunny scrub, orchards, and woodland edges. It spends much of its time resting along twigs or leaf stems, where its colour helps it blend into foliage. When disturbed, it can extend a scented osmeterium that releases defensive chemicals.
