Winter Moth
Operophtera brumata

An adult moth active in late autumn and early winter, often seen around tree trunks, lights, and woodland edges on cold evenings. Males fly in search of mates, while females are wing-reduced and usually climb bark instead of flying. Adults feed little or not at all, relying on stored energy from the caterpillar stage. A notable feature is its winter breeding season, which lets it avoid many warm-weather insect predators.
