Adder
Vipera berus

The adder is a small venomous viper found in heathland, moorland, woodland edges, and grassy clearings across much of northern Eurasia. It hunts mainly small mammals, lizards, frogs, and ground-nesting bird chicks, using camouflage and a rapid strike before following envenomated prey. Adders are generally shy and prefer to bask, hide, or retreat rather than confront large animals. Notably, females give birth to live young instead of laying eggs, an adaptation useful in cooler climates.
