Adder Neonate
Vipera berus (neonate)

Adder hatchlings are born in late summer in heathland, woodland edges, and grassy clearings, immediately able to fend for themselves. They shelter beneath vegetation, stones, and leaf litter, using their patterned camouflage to avoid predators and ambush tiny prey. Their diet includes small lizards, young frogs, and invertebrates. Unlike many snakes, young adders are born live rather than hatching from eggs.
